As a radiologist if I’m sitting in an Australian consulate or embassy situated in the United States can I bill Medicare for radiology interpretations?

Can Medicare benefits be claimed when a FACEM does a virtual consult in an accredited private emergency department?

The emergency specialists (FACEMs) are all accredited and licensed and practicing in public emergency departments (ED) across the country. The hypothetical scenario given was that a patient presents in the usual way to the private ED and is triaged and assessed by onsite nursing staff. If there are no onsite doctors available or they are too busy can the nurse and patient onsite engage in a video consultation with a virtual FACEM and is that claimable to Medicare? The FACEM would assess the patient, make a management plan and either discharge as appropriate or admit to a relevant specialty within the hospital. The clinical record would be produced as per normal and uploaded into the patient record. The Virtual FACEMs would also be accredited by the private ED in the normal way.

I am an infectious diseases physician and cover a few different hospitals. Sometimes I offer telehealth consultations for inpatients. I would like to know how I could bill them.

Can I bill to Medicare when a patient is in Australia but I am overseas?

Doctor A asked what happens when the treating doctor goes overseas for a week of conference leave while the patient is midway through a course of treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The patient cannot stop or delay the treatment because it is required to be administered via incremental doses at set intervals. The doctor wanted to know if billing could continue from overseas under the supervision arrangements.

Doctor A wanted to know whether billing to Medicare was permitted in circumstances where an Australian, Medicare eligible patient, was overseas working or holidaying, and the doctor was in Australia, and the service took place via telehealth.
